Using Gagne’s instructional design to teach communication skills in phlebotomy education through role-play

Background: Phlebotomy is a medical procedure that performed frequently in the blood collection activities of institutions. The involves close interaction with different types patients—some whom are cooperative and others, who, for many reasons, not (for example, patients who have fear needles). Blood extraction an essential skill several specialties, such as laboratory sciences. Lesson planning phlebotomy education mainly focused on procedural skills, very little attention given towards teaching communication skills despite patient phlebotomy. In this paper, I propose lesson plan to sciences nursing students based Gagne’s instructional design. Methods: The training session included two main parts: using Gange’s design at end session, participants were surveyed effectiveness session. Results: 17 study. Overall, majority highly satisfied all seven survey questions receiving mean score 4.58 Likert scale 1-5. Conclusion: We demonstrated beyond theoretical teach through role-play education.
